What’s not to love about eating ripe and delicious blueberries? When not eating them as a simple healthy snack, I like to enjoy them whenever possible to maintain a plant-based diet.

On most days, I typically make most of my smoothies with all natural fruit juices – usually, cranberry juice for a slightly sweet and tart flavor. On the other hand, blending my blueberries with mango juice was absolutely tropical and tasty.

You can easily make this between meals or when you need a boost of energy. Blueberries are filled with beneficial antioxidants and nutrients to keep you fit and healthy.

One day I decided to do something different and use non-dairy milk.

The result was smooth, creamy, and delightful.

This is the best healthy blueberry vanilla vegan protein smoothie. This easy recipe will give you a smoothie that is rich and filling to drink any time of the day.

For this quick smoothie recipe, you can use fresh or frozen blueberries as the main ingredient. For more of a healthy frozen treat, use frozen blueberries. Frozen blueberries are a lifesaver, especially if you don’t have access to fresh berries when not in season.

*A quick tip – Taste your blueberries beforehand. If they are a little tart, don’t worry. The vanilla extract and agave nectar will mellow out any acidic taste.

Made with non-dairy milk for creamy goodness.

To blend everything together, you can use whichever plant-based milk of your choice – almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk or rice milk. I like to use unsweetened / unflavored non-dairy milk as it has a neutral flavor that’s great for baking and cooking.

Vegan Protein with Benefits – Vegan protein powders are sourced from plant proteins. In many cases, vegan protein powders may also be labeled gluten-free, depending on the ingredients.

You can also make your own protein blend from powdered hemp seeds, chia seeds, brown rice powder or pea protein.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Frozen or Fresh (Regular or Organic) Blueberries
  • 1 Cup Non-Dairy Milk
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract (Optional if using Flavored Protein Powder)
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp Agave Nectar or Natural Sweetener
  • 1 to 2 Scoops Vegan Protein Powder (Most Vegan Protein Powders are also Gluten-Free)

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients into a blender.
  • Process until smooth. If you like a thinner consistency, add more non-dairy milk.
  • Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Notes

For Non-Dairy Milk Substitutes, try Almond Milk, Soy Milk, Coconut Milk, Rice Milk or Oat Milk. 
 
If using vanilla flavored protein powder, you can omit the vanilla extract. If using a different flavored protein powder, it’s entirely up to you whether you want the additional vanilla flavor.
 
If your protein powder is already sweetened, you can exclude adding the agave nectar.
